Lyle Gabriel began coaching youth baseball in San Diego in 1984. In the summer of 1988 he was invited to take a team of 12U players to Beijing, China. Travel baseball in San Diego begins! The following December he took his team, the San Diego STARS, to Brisbane Australia.
In 2002 Coach Gabriel had the honor of coaching Team USA in the Caribbean. The very best players in the United States played in Cuba and the Dominican Republic. He returned three different seasons to the Dominican Republic coaching and training with the Arizona Diamondback Latin American Instructors.
Coach Gabriel was inducted into the AAU Hall of Fame in 2005.
In the 23 years Coach Gabriel has guided the San Diego STARS they have won 26 National Championships in 6 different age divisions.
The San Diego STARS players have traveled to 5 different countries and have played teams from 13 different countries.
Coach Gabriel has coached 41 players that have gone on to play Professional Baseball any many more have played Major College Baseball.
Coach Gabriel has produced an award winning Baseball instructional video series — “The Making of a Champion.”
